Silky Concrete, creativity unleashed

The success of Decorative Concrete has been undeniable for over 20 years, so much so that it's no longer a question of calling it a "trend." Millimetric and jointless, Silky Concrete, our decorative concrete, has the ability to enlarge, fluidify, and envelop spaces, without the drawbacks of traditional waxed concrete. Silky Concrete is a sensual, carnal material: its mineral quality makes it particularly soft to the touch. Walking barefoot on a Silky Concrete floor from Jardin des Matières is a unique experience, as our material stands out for its sensuality and delicacy....

Refined, minimalist material, Silky Concrete enhances the architectural lines of the spaces and arrangements it adorns, as well as the furniture and various objects that fill your interior. It is beautiful in itself AND it unleashes your creativity: a true setting for your decorative projects.

Unique versatility: concrete for all styles and applications

Silky Concrete is not limited to a single type of decor: minimalist, industrial, rustic, Scandinavian... it embraces and serves all styles! Multiple applications: horizontal, vertical, on various objects, in new construction or renovation (the millimeter-thin aspect avoids heavy work and changes to carpentry).

Play with colours and textures

We offer more than 40 chromatic shades that can be adapted to your tastes and desires through the interplay of pigments and the different textures/finishes of our material. You can choose between a matte, satin or moiré finish depending on the effect you want to create and the brightness of the room in question.

Genuine expertise in substrate preparation

Our 15+ years of experience in floor preparation allows us to apply our coatings to all types of substrates, particularly those that may show instability or defects such as cracks.

Terminology Update

Béton Soyeux and Béton Lithos: two interpretations of the same material

Historically, the term polished concrete referred to a concrete slab that had been sanded and then waxed. Composed of cement, sand, and aggregates, this structural material evokes mass, thickness, and robustness. It is primarily designed for load-bearing applications, where strength takes precedence over fineness.

Over time, the aesthetics of polished concrete inspired the emergence of thinner decorative coatings, derived from traditional mortars enriched with modern admixtures. These millimeter-thick materials, often called decorative micro-mortars, allowed the spirit of concrete to be applied to various surfaces, without structural constraints.

However, this popularization has also led to excesses:

overly marked surfaces, rough grain, uncontrolled clouding effects, or plasticized finishes due to the systematic use of polyurethane varnishes. These are all common defects, but incompatible with our vision of the material.

At Jardin des Matières, we have chosen not to offer standard polished concrete, but to develop two distinct and controlled interpretations of decorative concrete, each with its own language, texture, and intention.

Béton Soyeux

Béton Soyeux is the culmination of more than seven years of research and experimentation. It is a millimeter-thick decorative coating with a deliberately soft, continuous, and soothing surface.

It is distinguished by:

  • A homogeneous aesthetic, without roughness or excessive marks
  • Natural indentation resistance, without film-forming PU varnish
  • A polished and impregnated surface, easy to maintain, which retains its mineral quality
  • A water repellent integrated into the mass, thanks to environmentally friendly admixtures

Its singularity lies in its silky and warm feel, similar to tadelakt. Béton Soyeux is designed to create enveloping, luminous, and elegant spaces, where the material is discreet and sensory.

Béton Lithos

Conversely, Béton Lithos claims a more mineral and raw character. Inspired by stone, rock, and natural ground, it embraces the presence of the material, its grain, and its micro-variations.

Béton Lithos is characterized by:

  • A more marked and mineral texture
  • A lively, slightly vibrant surface reading
  • A more telluric appearance, evoking stone, earth, and landscape

Where Béton Soyeux seeks continuity and softness, Béton Lithos expresses the material in its depth, with a more organic and assertive character.

Two materials, the same high standards

Béton Soyeux and Béton Lithos are not opposed. They translate two sensitivities, two ways of experiencing the material.

One favors the softness and sensuality of touch, the other the strength and authenticity of the mineral.

In both cases, our standards remain the same:

durable, controlled materials, respectful of their nature, designed to stand the test of time with elegance.
